How To Get Free Money and Help For Victims ... FOREVER Already over $1.1 billion has been raised by non-profit organizations and about $20 billion has been appropriated by Congress to help victims and their families cope with the recent disaster. But this money pales in comparison to the $350 billion available in existing government programs to help victims, or anyone else for that matter, improve their lives during any emergency - even long after emergency needs are met and the media moves on to another "story du jour." It's impossible for emergency service organizations to know about the thousands of "non-emergency" programs that can help families long after the emergency money is gone. Sure, emergency services personnel are trained to tell victims about emergency state programs like the one that offers $4,642 in rental assistance if you lose your apartment. But it's impossible for them to know about the hundreds of other programs, like those that offer free grants for down payments and closing costs when victims want to buy a new home. Emergency services will also be able to tell you where to get free emergency hospital care, but our studies show that not even medical personnel are aware of the many long-existing programs that offer free prescription drugs for those who need them. Or when a family has to pay for college, they can certainly try to apply for some of the $5 to $10 million in scholarship funds set up for victims, but what about the $24 billion that is already available from hundreds of other private and public organizations? There's a big world of free money and help out there. Victims of these recent, tragic events should be aware of more than just the "victim specific" programs. Many of them may also be eligible for:
I've
been cataloging government programs for over 25 years and have written
over 100 books on the subject. My work has made me proud to know that
America has an enormous capacity to show its compassion for victims, not
only just right now, but FOREVER. | |||
